Premier Press in Portland took Best of Show in PPI’s 2018 PrintROCKS! awards competition with the promo package shown above. Other winners announced at the gala on Sept. 20 in Portland are shown in the matrix below. DCG ONE and PrintWest were leaders among the Seattle-area entrants.
Judges said of the Premier BOS entry, featuring Michael Jordan: “This influencer marketing piece catches Air! Layers of custom touches and specialty techniques make this box a one-of-a-kind package. Featuring Soft Touch graphics, spot gloss, foil stamping and satin ribbons, this feat of creative production has everything to make influencers around the world take notice. #winning.
PPI’s loss is the marketing-consulting world’s gain! We just received word that energetic executive director Jules Van Sant is leaving the Northwest’s leading printing-industry organization to open a consulting firm.
In an email, Jules said: “I’m leaving in the Fall, once a replacement is hired and connected with the communities. I’m starting a marketing-consulting firm with a partner who has experience in both paper-manufacturing and high-tech industries. I’m excited for the new challenge.”
Jules joined PPI in 2001 as a contractor and accepted the Executive Director position in 2006. She brought with her fresh energy, which resulted in a number of new initiatives, including educational outreach through the PPI Educational Trust and ExploreVizComm program, adding Utah to make PPI a seven state Print & Graphic Arts Association and the PrintROCKS! awards competition. Her “swan song,” in fact, will be at the 11th annual PrintROCKS! awards gala on Sept. 21 at the Melody Ballroom and Events Center in Portland. “I am proud of the work our member firms have accomplished during my tenure given the industry’s very challenging landscape. Print is the largest small business in Washington State, disruptive in a digital world and I am humbled to have worked on behalf our region and nationally. The PPI Board and myself will ensure a smooth transition happens and don’t be surprised to see me be a voice on the advancement of career opportunities and workforce development / apprenticeships. Thank you all for believing in me and PPI.”                                                                                                                  —LC
