An Ode To COVID-19
Or—the Ease of the Disease!
Am I the only soul alive
Who sees lotsa things to like
About the COVID pandemic
That last year chose to strike?
Let me tell you all the things
That, to me, are for the better
During this time of global angst
That’s an all-time record-setter!
Less traffic is my Number One,
Why did it take so long
For high-tech firms like Microsoft
To see commuting’s wrong?
I choose to own no cellphone,
It’s much better, I think,
To have my office IMac—7
Be my Internet link.
So, I daily drive to and fro
Twixt Woodinville and Rose Hill,
Speeding along the roadways
Microsofties used to fill.—7
It’s they who make the software
If, indeed, I must take note,
That long could have enabled
The whole world to work remote!
And I’ve observed that people
Are much more polite on Zoom
Than when you had lotsa folks
Crammed into a single room.
Now, I’m not someone who prefers
To spend a lot of time in throngs.
Quiet time spent in my Man Cave
Is where this ol’ heart belongs.
Then there’s the requisite face mask
And the thing I like about this:
No worries how my face looks,
From an untrimmed beard to zits!
And how about not having to
Wear new outfits every day?
You can don the same old clothes
Whether going to work or play.
Other than those Zoom meetings
Your time’s pretty much your own,
No boss coming by your office
And a lot less time on the phone.
I’ve heard ’bout the ‘COVID 30’
The extra pounds the homebound gain
But these days I exercise more
And, for me, those 30 have waned!
Because I haven’t been drinking
Those beers or double Manhattans
Is why my aging body
No longer tends to fatten.
Aside from the COVID menace,
The world’s a lot healthier place.
The flu cases, as one example,
Have dropped at a dramatic pace.
And I like sitting in my car
When I go out to eat.
Getting out to go inside
Is becoming obsolete.
I know every drive-thru lane,
From Wendy’s to KFC,
And all the fast-food workers
Readily recognize me.
And passing on golf season
Helped save me beau coup bucks
That I can use to order
Meals that are more deluxe!
So, I ask, what’s not to like?
(Except for the deadly disease!)
When what it has really wrought
Is lifestyles with a lot more ease!
Postlogue:
All of the above was written
With the many lost lives in mind.
It’s one of the great tragedies
Throughout all of humankind.
Yet, we still here must persevere
And take a positive tack
Until the days of normalcy
Will once again come back.
And kudos to the single moms
Who had to become teachers, too,
Helping their kiddies learn lessons
Like regular schools used to do.
Who knows when the siege will end?
Neither Fauci nor Biden do.
But I will close with this one wish:
That COVID never touches you!
Larry Coffman (aka The Poet Larry-ate)
Love it Larry! All true. That’s been my experience too. And I suspect many feel the same.
