Since 2009, MARKETING has been inducting leaders in the marcomm community into the pantheon of MARKETING IMMORTALS, based on their career accomplishments. The eight categories include Advertising, Public Relations, Design, Direct Marketing, Film/Video/Audio, Graphic Arts, Media and Corporate/Client. The total of inductees now stands at 67.

As stated in the Welcome message on www.marketingimmortals.com, “The intent of this Website is to preserve the memories of those who have contributed so much to these various fields of endeavor, as we know them today and as they will evolve in the future. Besides ‘immortalizing’ the work of those who have gone before, the site also is intended to inform current practitioners of the legacies upon which their work is founded and to have significant educational and historical value.”

We revisit a different MARKETING IMMORTAL each week. This week’s featured IMMORTAL is Bryan Johnson, a storied veteran of nearly six decades in radio and television—the majority of them with KOMO. When we asked what he’s up to now, this was Bryan’s response: “Keeping a low profile. Swearing at the TV—particularly news and politics! Working on old cars.  I have a Sunbeam Talbot 90 and an Austin Healey 3000. The Healey is really my son’s work.  He restores them and other British cars for a living and he wouldn’t let me touch that one! Also trying to perfect my cooking skills, mainly Indian and Thai. For that reason, I have to invite guests over as my wife is a ‘no stars’ type.

“Still fighting an auto-immune problem with my ears, which makes hearing people difficult and thus keeps volunteering largely off the table, but my wife and I hope to get involved as soon as I find a really good set of hearing-aid crutches!!! And my wife is enlisting my help in some of her audio projects.”
