KING-TV won more than a third of all the golden Emmy statuettes awarded at the 55th annual gala on June 7 at the Fremont Studios in Seattle.
KING took home 29 of the 85 Emmys presented to—coincidentally—a total of 29 entrants from the five-state National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ (NATAS) Northwest region. More than 400 entries were received in the premier television awards competition.
A distant second, with six Emmys each, were KOMO-TV, Oregon Public Broadcasting and Montana Public Broadcasting, followed by KCTS-TV, with five. KIRO-TV and the Seattle Channel received three apiece.
KING also took home the Emmy for Overall Excellence, which was presented to KING president/general manager Jim Rose. KOMO’s Morning/Daytime News took top honors in the largest of the three station categories for its Day 2 coverage of the Amtrak derailment, led by executive producer Jacci Lewis.
In individual honors. KOMO’S Molly Shen (at right) won the Emmy for Anchor-News, Brad Adam of ROOT Sports for Anchor-Sports and Jordan Steel of KING for Anchor-Weather.
At the Friday night Silver Circle gala, six new inductees were recognized for their career contributions to the Northwest television industry. The included Doug Armstrong, KTVB/Boise; Laural Porter, KGW/Portland; John Sharify, KING; Eric Sowl, KTUU/Anchorage; and DJ Wilson, KGW Media Group.
