KING-TV Dominates Emmy Awards

In a dominating performance, KING-TV won 30 of the 94 Emmys bestowed at the 54th Annual television-awards gala on June 3 at the Fremont Studios.

KOMO-TV and Oregon Public Broadcasting tied for second with a dozen golden statuettes apiece, and KCTS-TV was fourth with six. KOMO also won awards for its Morning/Daytime coverage of the Bothell Fire and Evening News coverage of the Greenwood Explosion. A total of 28 entrants, which included television stations, production houses and agencies, won at least one Emmy.

KING’s array of awards included the Emmy for Overall Excellence to the The KING-5 Home Team, headed by president/GM Jim Rose. The station also won in the Breaking News category for its 2016 May Day coverage and sports anchor Chris Egan was cited for his Composite—Rio to Renton—Olympics coverage.

In the agency categories, C+C won Emmys for its 911 Accidental Dial spot in the Commercial Campaign category and for Hannah’s Story in the Community/PSA category.

The Northwest Chapter of the the National Association of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) covers a five-state region, including Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho and Montana. It has been ably managed for the past two decades by Diane and Loretta Bevins of Association Services, Inc., who succeeded Marion Simpson, after her death.
