AAF-Seattle was awarded eight of the 251 ADDYs conferred in the national competition, involving ad clubs in 15 regional districts.

From our District 11, Wunderman Seattle received three, POSSIBLE two, and the Tacoma Rainier, Publicis Seattle and World Famous one each.

It was a four-horse race for supremacy in AAF Seattle’s 2017 ADDY Awards competition, with Wunderman Seattle nipping three other entrants at the wire.

Wunderman was the clear leader in Gold ADDYs, with eight, along with three Silvers. Next came POSSIBLE with a Gold and nine Silvers, followed closely by Cole & Weber with a Gold and eight Silvers and Publicis with four Golds and four Silvers.

Wexley School for Girls, which finished with two Golds and three Silvers, took Best of Show and a Judge’s Choice Award for its Dragon Destruction television commercial for client Pocket Gems. Other Judge’s Choice winners were POSSIBLE, the Tacoma Rainiers and Tether. D1 was the Peoples’ Choice honoree.

A total of 17 entrants were awarded 27 Gold and 54 Silver ADDYS at the annual gala on March 16 at the Seattle Waterfront Marriott, attended by nearly 400. There also were 11 Student ADDYs awarded.

All Gold and Silver winners will go on to the regional ADDY competition and winners there are entered into the national competition.

Cynthia Hartwig was presented the coveted 2017 Silver Medal. The AAF website said that “Cynthia has been a copywriter for more than three decades and now shares here content marketing knowledge with business people as the co-founder of Two Pens.” In an online profile, Cynthia said she has published many short stories and written two novels. For the past five years with Two Pens, she has trained business people in content marketing, branding, blogging, etc. for a blue-ribbon list of clients, including Microsoft, Starbucks, Costco, Nordstrom and AT&T.

Past Silver Medal recipients include Dick Hadley-2009, Jim Copacino-2010, Tracy Wong & Pat Doody-2011, Ron Elgin-2012, Bob Peterson-2013, John Brown-2014, Larry Asher-2015 and John Schofield-2016.

The AAF Silver Medal Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellents and responsibility in areas of social concern. Each year, the Seattle chapter bestows this honor upon an outstanding member of the Seattle advertising community.
